THE POWER OF AN EMBODIED LIFE

 Emma Simmons, MA, LPCC, RCST

Emma has practiced as a mind body healer for over 30

years. She learned through her own healing  journey that what once seemed impossible is possible, what seems unbearable can be tended to with care and transformed.  She weaves together her knowledge of  psyche and soma in a seamless process. In doing so, she meets the uniqueness and complexity of each individual's situation.

She does not view symptoms of pain as pathology or sickness,  but as things that demands to be heard and  understood. It is through the body that these aspects of ourselves often communicate, maybe through crippling anxiety, chronic

tension or numbness.

Whether it is through the simple act of listening, helping you  understand your body's responses or hands-on work,Emma creates a powerful space in which you can embrace your hopes, face unresolved fears and discover new possibilities.

BIRTH PSYCHOLOGY

My work is founded on the premise that the body and psyche are interconnected parts of our whole being. The mind influences the body, and the body influences the mind.  Each contains potential for transformation. In this culture, we have learned to ignore, deny, and repress our bodies and much suffering comes from this. Psychotherapy has traditionally focused mostly on the mind. An emphasis on thoughts and emotions without an understanding of how the body stores experience, makes for an incomplete therapy process. Just talking does not help the body feel safer, calmer or more confident.

In our work together, I help you find ways to  safely begin the process of reconnecting to your body and all its wisdom. This wisdom contains the seeds of your life force. In developing the skills of mindfulness, body awareness, kindness towards ourselves and our experiences, we facilitate change.  This allow for a greater possibility for joy and meaning in our lives.
